Our History

The Schofield house was built in 1900, by a local businessman and philanthropist John F. Ross.

After the Ross family, the famous traveling Winninger Family Novelty Company headed by Franz Winninger occupied the house. His son, Charles Winninger was perhaps the most famous of the family for he went on to do Hollywood movies.

The Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home has been owned and operated as a funeral home since 1954, when Earl Janssen bought the three story colonial house and moved in with his family. In

1977, an employee of Janssen’s, funeral director Patrick Hayden purchased the home and business. The business added a new location when Mr. Hayden built an additional funeral home in a nearby town, Mosinee, in 1982.

Mr. Hayden owned and operated both funeral homes up until his retirement in September of 1999, when his employee, funeral director John Buettgen, along with his wife, Beth Buettgen, purchased the business. The funeral home’s name was officially changed to Hayden-Buettgen Funeral Home in January 2001. Then in 2009 changed to John J. Buettgen Funeral Home.
